AI trading agent vs rule-based bot
A rule-based bot executes conditions you specify. An AI trading agent can interpret context before proposing an action. DXAP combines model reasoning with a separate policy engine, so flexible strategy interpretation and execution limits have different roles.

When fixed rules are sufficient
If the entire task is a known condition followed by a known order, a configured bot or native venue order may be easier to understand. Adding a model introduces another decision process. The useful question is which part of the strategy needs interpretation, not whether the software has an AI label.
When an agent is useful
An agent can consider several inputs, explain conflicting evidence and decide to wait within its strategy. DXAP gives the model market and research tools, then checks proposed actions against configured policy. This is useful when your strategy describes a thesis and exceptions rather than only a fixed trigger.
Review both decisions and boundaries
For a fixed bot, inspect the conditions and orders. For an agent, also inspect the context and reasoning behind action or inaction. A persuasive explanation is not an execution permission. In DXAP, enforceable settings belong in the policy configuration, while strategy preferences belong in instructions.
Put it into practice
Compare two tasks: “place this order when this price condition is met” and “consider this market thesis, check competing evidence and trade only when the thesis still holds.” Use the simplest setup that expresses the task you actually have.
Questions about this workflow
Can an AI-written bot still be rule-based?
Yes. AI can write or assemble a strategy whose runtime follows fixed rules. AI authoring and model-driven decisions during trading are different capabilities.
Does a DXAP agent have unlimited discretion?
No. It works within available tools and configured limits, with proposed actions checked by the policy engine.
