Why an AI trading agent decides not to trade

A no-trade decision can be a valid result of the strategy. In DXAP, inspect the recorded turn to distinguish weak evidence, conflicting context and a configured constraint from an operational problem.

Look for the reason to wait

Ask which part of the thesis was missing or contradicted. If the strategy permits waiting, inactivity alone is not a failure. An agent told to trade only when evidence is clear should be able to explain why the current evidence did not justify an action.

Check policy and account context

A strategy preference and a blocked action are different explanations. Review the turn and relevant settings to see whether the agent chose to wait or an intended action could not proceed. Inspect agent status and account conditions when the record suggests an operational issue instead of a market decision.

Do not reward activity for its own sake

Increasing trade frequency to make an agent appear busy increases turnover and costs. Clarify ambiguous instructions when necessary, but judge whether the behavior follows the intended process. No-trade records let you review periods that a trade-only history would omit.

Debrief prompt: “Why did you stay out on this turn? Was it the market evidence, my instructions, a configured constraint or an operational issue? What specific change in evidence would make the thesis worth reconsidering?”
